I decided to feature this story as today's snippet.
Joey released Armino, moved in front of him, and took his
hand. Those dark eyes sparkled and held Armino captive.
“Dance with me.” Joey kissed Armino’s hand.
Breathless, Armino answered, “Yes.”
Somehow, Armino sensed he had agreed to more than a simple
dance. He followed Joey around the house to the backyard where the wedding
celebrations continued. The music changed from a pounding rock song to the
beautiful melody of a ballad.
Once they were amongst the other couples swaying to the
music, Joey turned. He lifted Armino’s hand in the air, and delighted, Armino
twirled under the bigger man’s arm. Joey finished the move by pulling Armino
into his embrace.
“I wouldn’t have pegged you as a dancer,” Armino commented.
The guy looked as if he chewed nails when he was bored and spit out the pieces
into a copper spittoon. Joey’s dark clothes and the chains slung across his
leather boots said biker all the way.
Joey’s lips curved into a crooked smile. “Darlin’, I’m afraid
that’s the extent of my moves on the dance floor.”
Their bodies brushed together, and prickles of attraction
performed the bunny hop over Armino’s skin. His cock filled, and Armino thanked
the stars he’d worn loose, dark khakis to the wedding.
“I think you have a few tricks that you could show me in
other places,” Armino teased and moved closer.
“That I will.” Joey led them in a slow sway to the music. His
fingers caressed the small of Armino’s back.
“I like dancing with you.” He wondered how being with Joey
seemed to push the stresses of life away.
“Good to know.”
Armino let the music and Joey’s scent settle over him. He
breathed in the fresh aroma of soap mixed with a slight something he couldn’t
pinpoint. Relaxed and happy, Armino decided to figure out that smell another
time. He hoped there would be another time.
They shuffled to five different songs, fast and slow. Armino
savored being enveloped in Joey’s strong male embrace. He would never take this
small hint of heaven for granted.
“Are you ready for cake?” Joey asked.
Armino hated for this special moment to end. He forced
himself to open his eyes and nod. Armino dared to touch the edges of Joey’s
crinkly yet soft beard. When Joey smiled, Armino smiled back. The connection
between them strong despite the newness.
Together, they walked over to a table holding the most
beautiful varieties of cakes Armino had ever seen. The different colors dazzled
him. The cakes he chose weren’t too sweet, and Armino ate a yellow piece and
another red slice with white frosting. Joey’s dark chocolate portion
disappeared in seconds.
“It’s getting late. If you’re going home tonight, we’ll
follow you.”
Armino finished throwing his fork and empty plate away before
turning to find Lorenzo and Matteo standing behind him.
“Why are you so concerned about me getting home tonight?”
Armino asked Matteo. “You’ve never cared where I went or what I did before?”
“Most of the town is here.” Lorenzo nodded toward Joey. “I’ve
just listened to an earful from my mom that someone had called Aunt Izzy and
told her you were dancing with another man. You’ve taken a stand tonight,
cousin. We may not like it, but we’ll make sure things don’t get out of control
when you get home and have to pay the piper.”
Armino wanted to throw something. When his father died, he’d
taken over paying the bills and made sure his mom’s day-to-day life ran in a
somewhat smooth manner. Italian emotions tended to run as hot as their pasta
sauce. His thoughts of waiting until morning to pack a few things and take off
for a while changed to finding a hotel room tonight and avoiding the whole
drama. Armino glanced at Joey. He wished there was a chance that he could lure
the big man into joining him for a night of sexy fun.
“Is that offer for a ride home still good?” At least he could
experience riding a motorcycle and the small intimacy of his legs spread around
Joey before the man saw the messed-up disaster of his life and left.
“We’ll go congratulate the guys on their marriages first.”
Joey entwined their fingers and started toward the other side of the yard where
the team members of Rescue for Hire stood and talked to guests.
Armino walked beside Joey, unable to keep the huge smile off
his face. He soaked up the man’s strong presence and gloried in their linked hands.
Whether or not anything between them lasted past the next hour was to yet be
determined. Right now, the whole party could see they were a couple, a
partnership. Armino had never experienced that before. Quick hookups in the
parking lot of the cheese factory where he worked didn’t count.
Side by side, they shook hands with the wedding couples and
wished them well on their marriages. Armino chuckled to himself. Who’d have
thought stupid Armino could snap up such a catch?
