Brutal honesty in a beta reader is essential for an author. They need to forget everything but the story that is given them. Authors submerse their beings into their stories as they write them. There are times I can't answer Mr. B's question because I'm totally somewhere else. We need that person to guide, yell, and sometimes have a temper tantrum to get it through our heads that we need to change our precious words.
I sent my latest story to my beta reader. I was so excited that I made the twisting suspenseful tale work. Yep, she hated it. So, I rewrote and added another 1000 words to finally get her approval. This is why a beta reader is important.
Today I'm chilling. That's a joke because it's presently minus thirty degrees out. I do need a day of no pressure. I probably will get some stuff done, but I'm not promising anything. I'm chilling. lol
Wow I am really impressed that you honestly take your beta readers consideration, that is inspiring!! I've spent a lot of time reviewing books... only for it to seem wasted because the author liked it or was like.. ahh.. but never have they actually made changes and trusted me as a reviewer!! You must have a great bond with your readers!! I am really happy to see that!! Collaboration I am learning is key in my own life!
ReplyDeleteI have a beta reader who I discuss ideas, plot problems, etc. I also pay her to edit the story. I also have a couple of fellow authors who will help me when I wave the help me flag. My goal is to put out the best possible story that I can. Reviewing a book after its published is a different matter. As for my readers, they are my treasures.
