The twists and turns of life take us all in different directions. Some we expect, some take us by surprise. This week our family had to come to terms with the miracle and devastation of modern medical technology.
It is wonderful to see premature babies grow up and live full lives after they were saved by modern medicine. But on the other side of the coin, it is devastating to watch modern medicine prolong a life who's organs are shutting down, poor blood circulation because the organs are no longer working, resulting in feet and legs dying. Add grossly swollen limbs and weeping skin and pain so horrendous that the patient has to be sedated at all times.
The good news is that life with be life, and death will be death. In the end those factors will be, no matter how much modern medicine tries to control its course.
RIP Mr. B.'s brother. You were loved and will be missed.
